Geothermal energy

GEOTHERMALLY HEATING OUR GREENHOUSES

Geothermal energy is heat from the interior of the earth that can be extracted from a layer of sand at a depth of approximately 2,200 meters. The heat that is released is roughly 75 degrees Celsius and can be used all year round. Geothermal energy is an ideal facility and it supplements the need for heat in the area of Agriport in North Holland.
Geothermal resources also ensure the decline in dependency on fossil fuels. The greenhouse vegetables are that much closer to total sustainability thanks to earth warmth.
To further the sustainability of growing tomatoes, pointed peppers and bell peppers on Agriport A7, the company ECW Geowarmte went drilling for geothermal energy. Hot water is pumped up to heat the greenhouses on Agriport as well as those of SweetPoint in Middenmeer. The cooled water is returned to the same area as from which the warm water initially was pumped.
